Morningside Manor residents fed up with service delivery failures

Residents are calling on the City of Johannesburg to take urgent action to resolve these issues and improve service delivery in the area.

Residents of Morningside Manor say they are frustrated by what they describe as ongoing neglect by the City of Johannesburg, with basic infrastructure problems being left unresolved for months.

Streetlights throughout the suburb have been out of order since December 2024, plunging the area into darkness each night and raising safety concerns among residents.

Gemma Reid, a resident, said she has reported the issue but has received no response from the municipality.

“It’s unacceptable. I logged complaints, followed up, and nothing happened. It’s like no one is listening.”

Reid also highlighted a blocked sewer drain on Stuart Road, between Kelvin and Ridgeway Drive, that has been overflowing into the street for more than a month.

“The stench is terrible, and it’s a health hazard. Again, we have reported this repeatedly, but have not even received a reference number. We are tired of being ignored.”

At the time of publication, Joburg Water and the city had not yet responded to inquiries.
