Sandton Hotel hosts Pride of Africa’s emPOWERment summit

Pride of Africa summit sparks dialogue and empowerment for queer youth.

The Pride of Africa emPOWERment summit brought together activists, allies, and queer youth.

It was for a day of dialogue, connection, and purpose at the Sandton Hotel on October 10.

Hosted by Pride of Africa, the summit, the second in a series of four, focused on storytelling, lived experiences, and community building.

It also introduced partner organisations working to support, empower, and develop LGBTQIA+ communities across Africa.

Kaye Ally, from Pride of Africa and Johannesburg Pride, said the event’s goal was to strengthen solidarity, amid rising homophobia and transphobia, especially on social media.

“These platforms are about visibility, awareness, and solidarity.

They give us the strength to stand up for ourselves and our community. We are queer, and we are not going anywhere.”

She added that, as an unfunded organisation, Pride of Africa relies on the generosity of brands that genuinely support diversity, inclusion, and equality.
