R10 000 donation and candy floss machine set to boost Sandton SPCA outreach

A R10 000 donation and a candy floss machine are set to strengthen outreach programmes and add flavour to future fundraising events at Sandton SPCA.

There was more than just sunshine in the air at Sandton SPCA on February 27; there was the promise of hope, help and a little bit of sweetness.

The SPCA received a meaningful boost from Vox Telecom, a fibre network that donated R10 000 and a brand-new candy floss machine, a combination that will support both life-saving outreach work and future fundraising efforts.

For Sandton SPCA general manager Nick Smith, the contribution is far more than a cheque and a piece of equipment; it’s an investment in the community and the animals they serve.

“We have received a fantastic donation from Vox. We’ve got a R10 000 cheque, and that is going to go a long way to helping us support the animals which we serve in the community.

“We spend a lot of money on outreach projects, particularly in terms of sterilisation in Alex to reduce the number of animals coming into our SPCA, he said, adding that this is going to go a great way to support that project.

While the financial donation will directly strengthen these essential programmes, the candy floss machine adds a creative twist to fundraising.

“They’ve also donated very generously a candy floss machine, which is going to be superb for our staff events, and we’ve got one today, we’ve got our monthly braai today, so we’re going to have candy floss after that. We can offer candy floss to the people who come and support us and give generously to our cause and to those attending our fundraising events,” Smith said.

Vox Telecom junior marketing manager Nicole Sibaya said they have been willing to support Sandton SPCA since last year because of the great work they do in the community.

“Today we are here at Sandton SPCA to donate R10 000 towards the upkeep of the Sandton SPCA as well as the candy floss machine. We thought that this would be a great idea for fundraising to help with the upkeep and keep our animals happy,” she said.

The funds were raised through a Vox golf auction, turning friendly competition into meaningful community support.

“We’ve been wanting to give back to Sandton SPCA since last year, and the funds raised through our golf auction allowed us to support the Sandton SPCA and the important work they do. We thought giving them the candy floss machine would be a great idea for fundraising to help with the upkeep and keep our animals happy.

“We are proud to contribute towards creating a safe, caring environment for vulnerable animals and to support an organisation that makes a meaningful difference every day.”
