Trio Gloriosa ignites the stage with vibrant Spanish Fiesta performance

A lively lunchtime concert filled with rhythm, passion and elegance left audiences captivated as Trio Gloriosa delivered a memorable Spanish-inspired performance at Theatre on the Square.

Music lovers were treated to a fiery and uplifting lunchtime concert as Trio Gloriosa took to the stage with their vibrant programme, Spanish Fiesta, on April 10 at Theatre on the Square in Sandton.

The distinguished trio, featuring Camelia Onea on violin, Berthine van Schoor on cello and Annalien Ball on piano, delivered a passionate and energetic performance that showcased their musical chemistry and technical excellence.

Audience members were visibly engaged throughout the concert, responding warmly to the trio’s expressive interpretations and dynamic stage presence.

The programme celebrated the rich colours and rhythms of Spanish music, creating an atmosphere that was both festive and emotionally moving.

Formed officially in 2014 after many years of performing together, Trio Gloriosa has grown into one of South Africa’s most admired chamber ensembles.

Named after the striking South African wildflower gloriosa superba, also known as the flame lily, the trio has built a reputation for delivering performances that blend classical mastery with vibrant storytelling through music.

Over the years, the ensemble has performed extensively across the country, appearing in concert series hosted by the Unisa Music Foundation, the Tauromenium, Glenshiel and Theatre on the Square, as well as major cultural events such as the Aardklop National Arts Festival.

Their performances have also reached international audiences through concerts hosted by foreign embassies in Pretoria.

The trio is known for its wide-ranging repertoire, spanning classical masterpieces by composers such as Mozart, Chopin and Beethoven, as well as popular film soundtracks and tangos.

Their versatility and ability to connect with audiences were once again evident during the Spanish Fiesta performance, which drew enthusiastic applause and positive feedback from attendees.

Many audience members described the concert as uplifting and enjoyable, praising the trio’s ability to bring energy and emotion to the lunchtime stage.
