Ward 109 councillor Lori Coogan visited the site this week after large piles of rubbish were found dumped along the roadside. The waste included black refuse bags, food waste, plastic packaging, and scattered litter. Coogan described the dumping as a serious issue affecting both the environment and the wellbeing of residents. She added that it is unclear who is responsible for the dumping, suggesting that the rubbish could be coming from passers-by travelling between Kelvin, Robin Way, and Marlboro Drive. “I’m not quite sure who would come up here and do the dumping, whether it was passers-by from Kelvin on to Marlborough Drive, or from Marlborough Drive into Kelvin, but they obviously think that this is an area that will not be observed while they’re actually doing the dumping. I will get a hold of Pikitup to try and see if we can get it cleared up.”
Coogan also appealed to residents to be more responsible when disposing of waste, and to consider the broader impact illegal dumping has on the community and environment. “People need to have some pride in their environment. They need to have concern for others and for the health of themselves and other residents.”

She warned that illegal dumping contributes to environmental degradation and creates unnecessary health risks for nearby residents. “We don’t need this mindless destroying of the environment and creating a health hazard. I will make sure that this site is cleared, but going forward, I would request that residents are more mindful of what they do with their litter. It’s up to us to make our urban environment a nicer place. It’s all our responsibility.”
