Parties nominate MPs for national assembly impeachment committee

Political parties represented in parliament have submitted their nominees to serve on the national assembly’s impeachment committee, with most parties meeting the official deadline.

The speaker of the national assembly has received the names of members of parliament nominated by political parties to serve on the impeachment committee.

Political parties were required to submit their nominations by May 22.

Most parties met the deadline, except the African National Congress (ANC), which informed parliament that it would submit its list over the weekend.

The party has since provided its nominees.

Two parties, GOOD and Pan Africanist Congress (PAC), said they would not participate in the committee because each party has only one member of parliament who also serves in the executive.

The ANC nominated Mrs DE Mpapane, Mr X Nqola, Mr MS Lekganyane, Ms AF Muthambi, Mr CM Dugmore, Ms DR Direko, Mr BM Maneli, Mr MG Mahlaule, and Ms LS Makhubela, with Ms KJ Maimela listed as an alternate.

Democratic Alliance nominated Mr G Michalakis, Mr BB Nodada, Adv G Breytenbach, Ms KL Khakhau, and Ms NK Sharif.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party selected Dr MJ Hlophe, Mrs SMN Mokoena-Zondi, and Dr K Litchfield-Tshabalala.

Economic Freedom Fighters nominated Mr JS Malema and Ms OMC Maotwe.

Other parties represented on the committee include the Inkatha Freedom Party, Patriotic Alliance, Freedom Front Plus, ActionSA, African Christian Democratic Party, United Democratic Movement, Rise Mzansi, Build One South Africa, African Transformation Movement, Al Jama-ah, National Coloured Congress, and United Africans Transformation.
