Alert at Winifred Mandela Precinct in Bryanston turns out to not be a shooting incident
Authorities have clarified that there was no active shooting incident at Winifred Mandela Precinct, after an earlier alert warned the public to avoid the area.
An alert was circulated on June 22, reporting an active shooting incident at Winifred Mandela Precinct, formerly known as Nicolway Mall, on Winnie Mandela Drive in Bryanston, Sandton, prompting warnings for the public to avoid the area and allow access for emergency services and law enforcement
However, SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello later clarified that no shooting had taken place.
“Apparently, there was no shooting. Two suspects have been arrested for suspected theft of vehicles. I will give full details as soon as I get detailed report.”

When the publication arrived at the scene, entrances to the mall had been temporarily closed and one section of the premises was cordoned off.
Multiple SAPS vehicles and private security response vehicles were present.
A man in handcuffs could also be seen lying on the ground next to a grey car, while authorities attended to the scene.
