Four-legged shoppers join Sandton SPCA at market day at Morningside Country Club

Local residents and their dogs stepped out to support animal welfare, browse charity stalls and boost community fundraising efforts.

Wagging tails were almost as plentiful as shopping bags when the Sandton SPCA brought its market day to Morningside Country Club on September 26.

Following the success of its April market day at Old Eds, Sandton SPCA retail manager Kirsten Rolston said the SPCA decided to take the event to another part of its service area, giving residents another opportunity to shop, socialise and support animals in need.

Rolston said every event forms a vital part of their overall fundraising programme, with the funds raised contributing towards the ongoing running of the facility and the treatment and well-being of the animals in kennels.

“Events such as the market day also give us an opportunity to promote adoptions, connect with the community and create greater awareness of our mission to protect animals and prevent cruelty,” she said.

“It was particularly lovely to see so many people arriving with their dogs, which always adds something special to our events. We connect directly with residents and help people understand the important work that takes place every day at the Sandton SPCA.”

Rolston expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped make the Morningside market day possible. She added that there are many ways people can support the SPCA beyond attending events, from volunteering to donating goods at the SPCA’s charity shop, supporting adoption and animal welfare programmes by signing up for a debit order or choosing Sandton SPCA as a cause on the Woolworths app.
