Sandton SPCA aims to raise funds from their golf day
SPCA hosted their fourth golf day at Houghton Golf Club.
Golfers and sponsors came out in numbers on March 18 at the Houghton Golf Club in support of Sandton SPCA’s goal of raising funds from the golf day.
Sandton SPCA general manager, Nick Smith, said the golf day was one of the many fundraising events they held annually.

“We have to raise our own money and where that money comes from is from ongoing donations, which can be in the form of debit orders that people have which are contributed every month, we get money from our shop where we sell second-hand goods and books that raises about a couple hundred thousand a month but it costs approximately R750 000 to R800 000 per month to run our SPCA.”

Smith added that the Sandton branch had 30 staff members, including five inspectors who responded to animal cruelty investigations and conducted pre- and post-home checks for adoptions when someone wants to adopt from the SPCA.
SPCA also receives funds from Woolworths through the My School Card and hosts a quiz night once a month at the Old Edwardian Society, which raises R15 000.

“Today is our fourth golf event, and we’re hoping to raise funds which will go towards our general running costs, and we’re also currently looking for new vehicles because the ones we have are old. Some of the other projects we want to work towards, which cost money, include enhancing our facilities, enhancing dog kennels, and our building also needs a new roof.”
The golf day has generated R70 000 which will go towards the daily costs of the SPCA.
