Four suspects arrested in suspected stolen bakkie

WENDYWOOD - Four suspects were arrested by Sandton police on the corner of Darwin Street and the Western Service Road in Wendywood after they were found in a suspected stolen white Corsa bakkie.

Sandton police spokesperson Captain Kym Cloete said, “Earlier today members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad pulled over a suspicious vehicle on Darwin Street in Wendywood. Upon investigation it was found that the vehicle, a white Corsa bakkie, was stolen during a burglary last month in the Primrose policing district.”

She said four suspects were arrested and the vehicle was confiscated.

“Police also discovered what appeared to be house-breaking implements in the vehicle,” said Cloete.

She said the four male suspects, ages ranging from late 20s to early 30s, will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on 6 October on charges of possession of a presumably stolen motor vehicle and possession of house-breaking implements.

3 October, 2.45pm:

Sandton police spokesperson Captain Kym Cloete said no firearms or card cloning devices were found in the suspected stolen vehicle, as thought by a resident and security guard on the scene. More information to follow as police investigate the case.

3 October, 2.30pm:

It is suspected that the four men used the bakkie to break into houses in the Sandton area.

It is alleged the suspects were South African and they have been taken to Sandton Police Station.
