Unlicensed, police-issued R5 rifle recovered in N1 shooting
BUCCLEUCH - Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said two suspects, who robbed a cigarette truck in Glen Marais, Kempton Park, in the morning of 30 October were arrested on Maxwell Drive following a shootout with police.
Dlamini said police recovered an unlicensed police-issued R5 rifle with no serial number.
Dlamini said the suspects were spotted by a police helicopter in Rabie Ridge and both the helicopter and police chased them. Dlamini said the suspects shot at a police vehicle and police returned fire.
Dlamini said the suspects drove to Maxwell Drive where they hijacked a Jeep but they then crashed the Jeep under the bridge by the Buccleuch interchange on Maxwell Drive. Dlamini said that the suspects attempted to run to the highway and hijack another car but police arrested two of the suspects.
Dlamini said no one was seriously injured.
The suspects will be charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of a police R5-rifle.
