Stage 2 load shedding looms

JOBURG – Eskom customers can expect more woes as the entity has revealed that they could move to Stage 2 this evening, moving from Stage 1 which was implemented from 2pm today.

Eskom Hld SOC Ltd @Eskom_SA stated, “As the system remains constrained, there is a high probability that we may move to stage 2 in the evening. We will inform you accordingly.”

On the company website it said, “This is due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently on unplanned outages due to technical faults.”

The company stated that the power system remains constrained and will remain so for the rest of this week. Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said, “We therefore urge all electricity customers to reduce their consumption in order to reduce the severity of load shedding. We would like to thank all the customers who responded to our call and reduced their energy consumption, which helps reduce the severity of load shedding. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to affected customers.”

Eskom called on all customers to reduce the load on the electricity grid by urgently switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, which will reduce electricity demand. Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can also make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours. Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system throughout the day.

Eskom customers are advised to check the load shedding schedules which are available on the Eskom website https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za . Municipal customers were urged to contact their local authorities.
