Alleged truck hijackers bust with groceries worth R200k in Wynberg

WYNBERG - Truck hijackers were bust by the Provincial Police Task Team with R200 000 worth of groceries.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton police confirmed an Eyewitness News report that the case was being handled by the provincial police.

The reports state that police arrested five suspects on 11 March at a storage facility in Wynberg in an operation led by the task team. The suspected truck hijackers were arrested they were offloading allegedly stolen groceries. This after undercover officers had been conducting a surveillance operation at the storage facility.

The 18-wheeler truck, filled with groceries and other goods, was parked on the pavement when the team found it.

“The suspects were still busy offloading the goods off the truck,” said Colonel Katlego Mogale, from the provincial police.

“The members arrested five of them on the scene. The truck was carrying groceries which included oils, soap and paper, as well as paraffin stoves.”

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
