One suspect shot and killed in shootout with police in Wynberg

WYNBERG – The Sandton police chased three suspects in a vehicle from Bryanston to Wynberg and recovered three firearms and stolen goods from a house robbery after a fatal shootout.

Lieutenant Colonel Andre de Klerk from Sandton police, said the police were on Belgrave Street in Bryanston when they spotted a maroon Subaru Forester vehicle leaving a house after what seemed like a house robbery. “The police gave chase and a shootout ensued between the police officers and the suspects,” said De Klerk.

He added that the chase ended in Wynberg where one suspect was shot and killed. “The other two suspects were wounded but managed to get away,” added De Klerk.

De Klerk said the vehicle the suspects were using was originally a white Subaru Forester which had been hijacked in Parkview and spray painted in blue and later maroon. “The vehicle was used in a robbery in Parkview, Linden and Sandton,” added De Klerk.

No arrests have been made, but the police are investigating.
