Fond memories of Brescia House teacher

BRYANSTON - Brescia House mourns the passing of Sister Margaret Woodvine

Brescia House School has lost a very special soul.

Teacher, Sister Margaret Woodvine passed away on 14 June and will be sorely missed.

Brescia House headmistress, Benedikte Nott said the school was in mourning. “We mourn the sad passing of Sister Margaret Woodvine who died peacefully after suffering from motor neuron disease,” she said.

“Sister Margaret served a full term as provincial prioress of the South African Chapter, was a teacher at this school and served as a member of our board of governors for more than 10 years.”

Jane Badham, the head girl of Brescia House School in 1985 has fond memories of Woodvine. “Sister Margaret was my Standard 4 teacher and was wonderful,” she said. “She was the youngest nun… and so we were especially drawn to her energy and dynamism. She played the guitar beautifully and, although she was very strict, she was fair and fun.

“She ingrained in us a deep sense of community responsibility at a very formative age and also came on the school tour we did that year to Cape Town. Like all the sisters I knew at Brescia, she holds a special place in my heart and was, without doubt, instrumental in shaping who I am today personally and professionally.”
