Extended parking lots enhance Mushroom Farm Park experience

SANDTON - Mushroom Farm Park to benefit from much-needed parking lot expansion.

Preparations are underway for the much-needed extension to the parking lot at Sandton’s Mushroom Farm Park.

Dr David Bate, chairperson of the Mushroom Farm Park Conservation Association noted that with more than 3 000 people visiting the park on peak weekends, the green space had in many ways ‘become a victim of its own success’. “There is simply no way to accommodate all users and we need to eliminate overflow parking on the sidewalks, kerbs and in front of residential complexes,” he said.

Bate added that the proposed expansion was not a new plan and was approved several years ago as part of a community consultation process. It is, moreover, part of a long-term master plan for the area. “We’re excited about the expansion because it allows for us to introduce many initiatives that will further enhance users’ experience of Mushroom Farm Park, such as a weekend market.”

Bate commended the support received from Barrow Properties, the developers responsible for the luxury apartment building Metropolis on Park which overlooks the park. The company will sponsor the new parking development.

Mast in Parkmore angers local residents

As one of Sandton’s green lungs, Mushroom Farm Park provides a much-needed haven where Sandton-dwellers can exercise, relax with their children, walk their dogs or simply escape the urban buzz, said Bate. There is an added reassurance that visitors to the park are safe at all times as it is patrolled by two guards around the clock, while CCTV cameras located throughout the site provide additional security.

“We’re proud of the contribution Mushroom Farm Park makes to the quality of life in Sandton and excited to be able to offer an even better experience.”
