Sandton SPCA 2027 calendar goes glam but the cause is serious
Volunteers brought rescue stories to life on the red carpet as the SPCA launched its 2027 calendar and revealed an ambitious R750 000 fundraising target.
The Sandton SPCA 2027 calendar launch brought glamour to Bryanston Country Club on August 27, but the real stars of the evening were the animals whose stories are helping to make a difference.
Instead of simply turning the pages of a calendar, guests were taken on a journey through the lives of rescued animals as volunteers stepped onto the red carpet to recreate the stories behind the calendar’s monthly stars.

From Leo and Tau in February to Coco in September, each page represented more than a photograph. It told a story of rescue, second chances and the people who stepped in to help animals in need.
Behind the glitz and glamour, however, was a serious mission: the Sandton SPCA hopes the 2027 calendar will raise R750 000, building on the R560 000 generated by the 2026 edition, which sold for R100.
According to Sandton SPCA General Manager Nick Smith, operational costs for the animal welfare organisation are about R750 000 a month, and the funds raised will enable the SPCA to remain operational.
Smith said among the organisation’s key priorities this year is expanding its outreach sterilisation programme, aimed at reducing the number of unwanted animals entering the SPCA.
The programme provides free sterilisation to pet owners in impoverished communities. After being sterilised, pets are returned to their owners the following day with a blanket and a basket containing food.

The initiative is supported by sponsors, and the Sandton SPCA hopes to significantly increase its reach, aiming for 4 000 outreach sterilisations this year after completing about 1 300 last year.
He added that the animal welfare organisation has also invested in new vehicles to enable its inspectorate to increase its outreach work and reach more communities. “By making sterilisation more accessible, we want to decrease the influx of unwanted animals, mainly dogs and cats, into our SPCA,” said Smith.
Smith expressed his appreciation to the community, sponsors and the Sandton Chronicle for its continued support and coverage of the organisation’s initiatives.
With last year’s R560 000 record already setting a strong benchmark, the Sandton SPCA is hoping that animal lovers will once again open their hearts and their wallets to help turn a simple R100 calendar into a contribution towards saving and improving the lives of animals.
“Anyone who wants a calendar, please come and buy one from Sandton SPCA. You can buy them online or from many outlets around the area. Every vet will stock them, and we will have them at Sandton SPCA.
This year we have 13 months because we have January 2028 in our calendar as well.”
