Tick-tock, Rolex gang strikes again

SANDTON – The Rolex gang is hitting Sandton, according to security company 7 Arrows.

It’s the time of year when criminals are on the prowl, and the Rolex gang seems to be back.

According to 7 Arrows Security, Rolex robberies are on the rise, with two incidents reported to them last week.

CEO Jason Mordecai said, “We had two reported incidents this week alone, the modus operandi is for the gang to spot the victim in a shopping centre. Often they spot the items they wish to steal as well as profile individuals according to their vehicles. They will then relay the information to their gang members, who follow the victim home.” Mordecai added that once the victim enters their driveway, the criminals strike and rob them.

One of the reported incidents occurred in Peter Place where items worth R80 000 were stolen, according to Mordecai. He added that the getaway vehicle was a white Jetta with two men wearing bandanas.

Eblockwatch reported a similar incident, which also occurred in Peter Place, where a Rolex watch was stolen. When Sandton Chronicle questioned the owners of the business where the incident was said to have taken place, they refused to comment, fearing the negative publicity would threaten their reputation.

Mordecai added, “We urge residents to be aware at all times, Rolex style attacks are more common this time of year. Be extremely cautious when entering your driveway, as this is when you become most vulnerable. If in doubt, call it in.”
