Robber gets 12 years for house robbery in Hurlingham Manor

HURLINGHAM MANOR – The man committed the crime in 2016 and was arrested the same day.

A 55-year-old man was recently sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for house robbery.

On 19 March 2016, at about 5am, the police received a complaint of house robbery in progress on the corner of Woodlands Avenue in Hurlingham Manor.

They immediately rushed to the scene where they found the victim who informed them that she had been robbed by suspects, who were armed with a firearm. Valuables were taken from the house including a cellphone.

The officers immediately began to locate the suspects. The description of the suspects was given and other officers started to look around the vicinity. A man was spotted, fitting the same description given, carrying a bag. Upon seeing the police, he dropped the plastic bag and started to run away into the bushes. The victim’s jewellery and other items were found in the plastic bag.

He was chased until he was cornered. He was then arrested and found in possession of other items stolen from the victim’s house. All the items were recovered and identified by the victim as hers.

The docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Moodley to investigate and the good work done by Lieutenant-Colonel Stephanus Titus, Warrant Officer Collin Kgwale and Constable Mantsha Modiba helped secure the conviction.

The management of the station would like to applaud the hard work done by the members and everyone involved in the matter, to assist in rooting out the criminal elements in society.
