A celebration of fabulous women ahead of Women’s Day

SANDTON – The annual Fabulous Woman Awards focuses on empowering young women and celebrating their achievements.

A businesswoman, entrepreneur and philanthropist has dedicated herself to empowering and celebrating other women through the annual Fabulous Woman Awards hosted in Sandton.

Pontsho Manzi, who founded the Fabulous Girl Foundation, will celebrate more than 200 women at the sixth annual awards ceremony. The awards focus on bringing women and girls together from all backgrounds to promote their hard work and celebrate their achievements.

Manzi started the foundation because she found that growing up in Soshanguve she struggled to find a mentor to help guide her in her career. Through the foundation, she hopes to give young girls the opportunities for mentorship that she never had.

“The Fabulous Woman Awards are about bridging the intergenerational gap among women and the promotion of ethical womanhood. Besides being recognised as inspirational and role models, the awards empower recipients to do more and that is how we affirm our girls,” said Manzi.

Every year the foundation hosts girls from various townships around Gauteng at the awards following image management workshops, entrepreneurship training and career guidance interventions throughout the year. On the night, these young girls are celebrated as the guests of honour.

The highlights of the evening include inspirational keynote addresses by prominent businesswomen and female corporate executives. The young women have the opportunity to network with businesswomen and find opportunities for mentorship and bursary assistance at tertiary institutions.

“The occasion of it all is an experience they do not forget and I am amazed at how inspired they are when they hear first-hand the journey of successful women and celebrities who come from similar backgrounds and how they made it.”

The awards show will culminate with the announcement of this year’s Fabulous Woman Hall of Fame inductee whose contribution to the cause of women is a symbol of woman power and determination. Previous inductees include Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

After five years of self-funding the event, Manzi added that she is excited to have a sponsor for this year’s event.

This year the South African Civil Aviation Authority has come on board as a sponsor. “They attended the awards in 2017 and got to see first-hand the work we do and the mountains that still lie ahead.

“We would like to reach more girls in rural and outlying areas who are forgotten. It pains me that our current resources have limited our reach to metros and the lack of support and information still astounds me.”
