Montrose Primary School emerge victorious in Montrose Night Challenge

PARKMORE – The Montrose Night Challenge concluded after seven weeks, with Montrose Primary School winning all three divisions.


The Montrose Night Challenge, the biggest primary school T20 tournament, concluded on 8 March.

The tournament sees primary school learners competing in U11 netball games, open netball games and U11 cricket games. The Montrose Night Challenge was not without its hiccups, many games were cancelled due to bad weather conditions however all games were caught up and the finals went ahead as planned.

The tournament is played as a day-night competition, with 16 open teams divided into four pools, and the four pool winners going through to semi-finals. The two winning teams then compete against each other for the title of Montrose Night Challenge winner.

In the U11 Netball games, Bryandale Primary School came in third place with Redhill coming in second place. In the open netball games, Redhill came in third with Bryandale Primary coming in second.

In the cricket, Alex Schools XI came in second behind Montrose Primary.

The individual awards were awarded as follows:

  • U11 best attack – Nxalati Mabunda from Steyn City
  • U11 best defence – Asisipho Mthethwa from Rivonia Primary School
  • U11 best shooter – Liamisha Aboo from Montrose Primary School
  • Best U11 netball player – Hannah Votin from Redhill
  • Open best attack – Khumo Kgala Montrose Primary School
  • Open best defence – Mihlali Gobingca from Bryanston Primary School
  • Open best shooter – Alex Evans from Grayston Primary School
  • Best open netball player – Olivia Dylan from Rivonia Primary School.
