Male sentenced to 13 years for attempted murder of girlfriend

BRYANSTON – The 33-year old male has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for attempted murder after brutally stabbing his girlfriend in Bryanston.


Magodiela Phosoo has been sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder after brutally stabbing his girlfriend at her workplace in Bryanston. The 36-year old male went to the victim’s workplace on the evening of 2 July and he lured her outside.

According to Captain Makgowanyana Maja, head of communication for the Randburg Police Station, Phoshoko stabbed the victim with a knife several times after an argument erupted. “After the incident he then fled the scene, leaving the victim in the pool of blood. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.”

Phoshoko handed himself over a few days after the incident where he was then arrested and detained. “Investigation and court proceedings were conducted, [and he was] ultimately found guilty on the following charges: Count 1 – attempted murder which he was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment; Count 2 –discharging of a firearm in build-up areas or any public place and declared unfit to possess a firearm.”

Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones welcomed the arrest, emphasising that ‘no stone will be left unturned’ in the fight against crime.
