Successful virtual run for Marist community

INANDA – The two-week event ending June 20 saw 1 320 learners, parents, staff and alumni complete a 4km virtual run, walk, cycle or round of golf.

The Marist Community successfully hosted its first-ever Team Marist Champagnat Day virtual run.

The two-week event, ending on June 20, saw 1 320 learners, parents, staff and alumni complete a 4km virtual run, walk, cycle or a round of golf.

All five South African Marist Schools were represented, namely St David’s Marist Inanda, Sacred Heart College and Marist Brothers Linmeyer in Johannesburg, St Henry’s Marist College in Durban and St Joseph’s Marist College in Cape Town.

Entries came in from across the world, representing five continents. Marist Old Boys Society’s Richard Halton, who matriculated in 2004, joined in and ran a distance of 8km all the way from Anchorage, Alaska. “Great initiative for the Team Marist Charity Run, it is great to be able to be part of the school again,” said Halton.

A number of St David’s learners and their parents even took to Emmarentia Dam to do their part for the Team Marist Run.

During the two-week period, an estimated R118 000 was raised through entry fees and donations from the Marist community.

”All donations have gone to the St David’s Champagnat Day Fund, and one-fifth of the funds raised will be going to the Three2Six Programme at Sacred Heart College for refugee children and the Marist Mercy Care Programme in the Eastern Cape,” said St David’s Marist Inanda’s Carey Fisher-Gietzman
