Bryneven learners get excited about feeding the nation

BRYANSTON – Each food hamper consisted of essential grocery items such as maize meal, flour, cooking oil, sugar, tea, yeast, beans or lentils, tinned fish, soap and dishwashing soap.

The community continues to go above and beyond for those in need.

Bryneven Cares, an initiative by Bryneven Primary School in Bryanston, recently partnered with the Feed the Nation Foundation to provide food assistance to families in need.

The Feed the National Foundation has provided over 32-million meals in the form of food hampers to communities in need with the help of Pick n Pay, customers, suppliers and welfare organisations.

With the logistical support of Pick n Pay on Nicol, the partnership with Bryneven made the donation of 60 food hampers possible to the families of learners identified by the school as well as the vulnerable families of learners at their adopted school, Sefikeng Primary School, located at Leeuwkop Prison.

“The need to support vulnerable families is greater now than ever, as communities are reeling from a second and third wave of the Covid pandemic,” said Suzanne Ackerman-Berman, transformation director at Pick n Pay and trustee of Feed the Nation Foundation.

“The Bryneven School Governing Body (SGB), school principal and all our learners would like to thank Feed the Nation Foundation and Pick n Pay on Nicol for the donation of the food hampers which will go to families and communities in need,” said SGB body member Josephine Tshabalala.

In addition to the food relief hampers, Bryneven Cares also donated pre-loved school uniforms to the learners at their school and at Sefikeng Primary School.
