Staff members were seated on stage as they welcomed 254 Grade 8 learners into the auditorium with their lit candles during the 2022 induction ceremony. As learners entered the facility, head boy, Lulutho Madolo, shared a poem to comfort them as they made their way to do their pledges. Parents quickly armed themselves with phones and cameras to capture the moments.

A few staff members were given the platform to introduce and share their expectations of 2022 including the headmaster of the school, Jerome Lawrence, who encouraged the learners to stand on their feet and become brave warriors. He further thanked the parents for entrusting him to guide the learners to Grade 12.

Head girl Alison Fairfax said, “It has been such a pleasure to watch you all come out of your shells and embrace your first weeks of high school. Don’t be afraid to try new things as long as they abide by the school rules. A little advice from me, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. If you are making mistakes, that means you are learning and growing. I wish you all the best for your journey in high school and I am looking forward to seeing your blue flames burn bright.”

Max Mhepo, a parent of one of the Grade 8 learners, added, “I can say it’s a new chapter in his life and I am curious to see how he will cope with the new environment and faces. I am feeling both happy and scared that my child is becoming more independent. I expect him to make wise decisions, make good friends and perform well in his academics. It’s not always about books, it’s also about the experiences, life starts here.”
