Compliance campaign by the Sandton Police Station targets liquor businesses

SANDTON – Licensed liquor traders of both on-site and off-site license consumption need to adhere to certain basic regulations.

Sandton Police Station officials from the liquor and second-hand goods department recently roamed the streets of Sandton inspecting multiple businesses dealing with the trading of liquor.

The objective of the campaign is directed at identifying businesses that are not cooperating with the National Liquor Act no27 of 1989 regulations.

The random inspection brings light to check the compliance of liquor traders situated around Sandton. Police officials are making sure that all businesses adhere to all the regulations being placed to protect the public.

Licensed liquor traders of both on-site and off-site licence consumption need to adhere to the following basic regulations:

  • The liquor licence must be available at the premises
  • The liquor must be renewed annual
  • It is an offence to sell or manufacture concoctions
  • It is an offence to employ minors
  • It is an offence to sell liquor to minors
  • It is an offence not to adhere to trading hours/trading days
  • A liquor licence cannot be leased to another person
  • All premised must have an appointed manager.

Businesses that did not comply with the regulations were all fined by the Sandton police officials during the time of the operation.
