Employment committee to probe job creation and digital platform worker rights
MPs will evaluate government initiatives and assess whether current laws protect e-hailing and delivery staff.
The Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour will scrutinise government efforts to create jobs and assess whether labour laws protect digital platform workers during a parliamentary sitting on August 26, 2026.
The committee will receive a progress report from the Department of Employment and Labour on the Labour Activation Programme and joint employment initiatives with the private sector.
Members are expected to evaluate whether these interventions translate into meaningful employment amid high unemployment rates.

Deliberations on platform economy
Deliberations will also extend to the expansion of the digital platform economy.
The briefing will cover emerging models in e-hailing, delivery, courier services and other digitally mediated work to determine if existing labour protections remain adequate.
The discussion will address worker classification, fair remuneration, social protection, occupational safety, algorithmic decision-making and access to labour rights. The committee will consider how workers can be protected without unnecessarily constraining innovation.
The meeting will also consider and adopt the outstanding draft minutes of August 19, 2026.
