St David’s Marist learners visit Sandton SPCA
Learners from St David’s Marist Inanda recently learned about the amazing work the Sandton SPCA does, all while lending a helping hand.
Learners from St David’s Marist Inanda recently spent a day learning and volunteering at the Sandton SPCA.
The Grade 7 learners were treated to a tour and educational talk by Inspector Xolane Mncube about all the work the local SPCA does before spending some time volunteering and interacting with the special animals in the SPCA’s care.

According to St David’s Marist Inanda teacher Glynnis Cryer, the monthly visit to the Sandton SPCA, as part of the school’s outreach programme, is one of the most popular extra-mural activities among the Grade 7 boys.
“The boys enjoyed the afternoon immensely, and it is an opportunity for them to develop an awareness of a social problem, and be involved in a project which benefits the community.”
The learners do many chores, which also include having a little fun while walking and helping to socialise the animals.

Sandton SPCA general manager Meg Wilson added that it is vital for a moral society to teach children about compassion and empathy.
“If a child is taught from a young age to respect every creature, small and large, it fortifies and entrenches moral values and beliefs which will overflow into the way that these young people will treat others now and in the future.”
