Sundowner 2023 is simply the best

An unmissable variety show to schedule into your week.

The Sundowners spectacular musical variety show Simply the Best has returned to Joburg North this November with an amazing line-up of soul-reviving music.

“This is our fourth show,” said Sundowners’ Mike Kidson at the November 18 show. “The [last] show we did was in 2019, because of Covid. We have, basically, been rehearsing since May for this show.”

With only two shows left, Simply the Best promises audiences all their favourite songs from across the ages of great music, performed live to perfection; and it’s all for a great cause.

The proceeds generated through this Gleektastic explosion of sound go towards organisations which assist: the differently abled, orphaned rhinos, as well as a share-and-care outreach programme.

“We do this show solely to raise money for our beneficiaries, every single cent that we raise from the show goes towards the beneficiaries,” Kidson said.

This year’s cast ensemble is amazing and enchanting to watch and listen to.

“The cast has been together in different combinations,” said Kidson. “They are very talented people. They are obviously all professional people in terms of their careers, so we have had to work around their availability.”

Kidson, who has been an integral part of this 35-year-old show since 2015, expressed how this year’s show had to overcome its fair share of challenges in coming to life.

“This year we’ve really found that due to the break that we’ve had in the show, the support has been really hard to get – [to get] people to attend the shows,” he said. “We’ve had to change venue because of load-shedding, the reality of our country. But we’ve got a venue now that’s got back-up power.”

The Sundowner 2023 Simply the Best production at Curro Rivonia is a true reflection of music’s magical power to unite people. What’s love got to do with it, Chiquitita and Everything when Marvin is your friend on the Nightshift. The production is a Love Story with simplistic, elegant choreography to each song, and an incredible five-set band accompanying all the magic on stage.

Seats to this wonderful experience are priced at a reasonable R120 per person. Gather your friends, pack enough to nibble on during the show, and elect a designated driver if you’re keen on Dancing in the dark.
