Buccleuch earmarked as a high-risk area for hijacking and kidnapping

Hijackings and kidnappings have been a reality in South Africa for quite some time now.

Councillor Dimakatso Moloisane of Ward 32 is concerned about the high crime rate in his communities, especially Buccleuch.

“During the past few months, a lot has been changing in Buccleuch; crime has skyrocketed in the area and the surroundings.

Based on reports he has received from community members; the most concerning increase has been in incidences of hijackings and kidnappings.

According to the statement that the Gauteng Provincial Community Police Board sent out, all types of commercial vehicles, including passenger transport vehicles, are at risk.

“The high-risk locations are N3: London Road to Buccleuch Interchange (both directions), N1: Buccleuch Interchange to Olifantsfontein Road (both directions), and M1: Woodmead Drive to Buccleuch Interchange (both directions).”

Scenario 1
Victims are blocked in and forced off the road by suspects. Sometimes more than one vehicle is used. In some cases, the victim is taken with the hijacked vehicle and later dropped off in JHB South.
Scenario 2
Victims are stopped by an unmarked vehicle with blue lights. Victims are sometimes taken with the hijacked vehicle and dropped off in an unknown field in JHB South.

“We urge all owners, operators, and drivers of the mentioned risky vehicles to be alert for suspicious vehicles following them. If any suspicious vehicles or activity is spotted by anyone, please call 10111 for assistance immediately.”
