Local school secures international radio award

Competing against esteemed institutions worldwide, including UCT and the University of Johannesburg, Redhill's learners have not only emerged victorious but have also brought immense pride to the school.

In a remarkable achievement, the learner-led radio station at Redhill, known as RedRadio, has garnered international recognition for its outstanding efforts.

RedRadio, a project driven by learners, for learners has long been a symbol of efficiency, talent, dedication, and forward-thinking among the Redhill Community.

This online platform, designed to enhance the listening experience for its audience, has recently been honoured with a prestigious international award in the 2023 International Student Broadcasting Championship.

RedRadio’s station manager, Kyla Laschinger, a Grade 11 said, “RedRadio is Redhill High School’s learner-driven station, created by us learners for learners.”

Laschinger explained that a team of 40 learners are a hub of creativity and self-expression, promoting a space for youthful engagement with the world around them.

“Learner’s talent, perspective, and passion come to life on our daily shows, where our presenters, producers, technicians, and news teams represent the voices of our generation. Our team gets a platform to develop valuable life skills with unique opportunities, and our listeners get the best that radio has to offer.”

She added that the website’s success underscores the commitment and excellence demonstrated by the RedRadio team, who consistently contribute to the Redhill brand and deliver exceptional content.

“Our triumph in an international arena reinforces the school’s dedication to fostering a dynamic and creative learning environment.”

According to executive head, Joseph Gerassi, Redhill extends massive congratulations to the entire RedRadio team for this well-deserved achievement.
