Bryanston community members keep fit by the river

Bryanston Parkrun is enjoyed as a community spirit-raising activity.

The energy outside Riverside shopping complex in Bryanston comes to life every Saturday morning as the community comes out to train and keep fit together in the weekly community park run.

Community member and Parkrun volunteer Colin van der Meulen said that the ambition was to maintain good health and cultivate positive synergies within the community.

Community members either run, walk briskly or stroll through the park at their own leisure.

“The main ambition is for people to get fit, to keep fit, and to enjoy a community spirit as well,” van der Meulen said. “We set up a course, make sure it’s all working well, and then we look after the people. We have things like medical equipment here, and we have defibrillators in case anyone has a really serious heart problem.”

Ingrid Emslie, Moni Olugbemi, Yolanda Sommer and Claudia Niehaus completed their day’s parkrun challenge.
