A successful turnout at the Bryanston Parkrun cleanup
The Bryanston Parkrun clean up brings volunteers together to clean, repair, and improve public spaces or other areas.

The Bryanston Parkrun, St Peter’s College Environmental Committee, and the 1st Rivertrail Scout Troop got together to sort out an important part of the Parkrun route that has been inaccessible.
Many Parkrun members were present on June 4 to lend a hand in making the route accessible.

Philip Wood of the Braamfontein Spruit support team said the route has been inaccessible for much of the summer because of water inundation.
“The marshy part of the natural wetland has been aggravated by water runoff caused by a broken municipal water main.”

He adds that this clean-up aims to create a safe and functional walkway while allowing the wetlands to flourish naturally and unimpeded.
“This is the third session undertaken over three months by Braamfontein Spruit and Bryanston Parkrun community members who are determined to make sure that the area is safe to use and that alien vegetation that has been encroaching and damaging the natural environment is eliminated, thereby allowing indigenous fauna and flora to flourish once again.”

He concluded by highlighting that the day was a success, and as can be seen, the pathway was used by the first runners.
