Students rally for childhood cancer awareness in Sandton

Students based in Sandton showcased their collective ability to turn empathy into meaningful action.

In a world where compassion often takes a backseat to the hustle and bustle of daily life, the IIE Varsity College Sandton student-dedicated students have emerged as a beacon of hope for children and teenagers battling cancer or life-threatening blood disorders.

Through their unwavering commitment and innovative initiatives, these students not only raised awareness but also made a tangible difference in the lives of those facing these challenging diagnoses.

According to Anto Kagisho, the communications person at Sandton College, the college hosted a Flip Flop Day where students showed their support to children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders.

“More than R2 000 was raised, which will be donated to the Childhood Cancer Foundations South Africa (CHOC).”

She explained that CHOC is a non-profit organisation committed to making a difference in the lives of children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders.

“Flip Flop Day is one of the various charity and NGO initiatives brought to the students by the VC Cares (student volunteer body) Committee at the campus.”

Kagisho added that the students were walking with pride on their soles with various kinds of flip-flops and slides.

Cristina Rodrigues, who wore her flip-flops with pride, said, “I enjoyed participating in this initiative, knowing that my contribution would make a difference. I pledged that, considering this is my final year, I will be participating in all the VC Cares community engagement initiatives happening on campus.”
