Exploring the future of AI insights in Sandton

Members of ORT Jet and Sasfin gathered for an engaging business breakfast at Sandton hosted by Sasfin Wealth on March 14.
The gathering featured Arthur Goldstuk, a South African author, journalist, speaker, and media analyst, as well as the IT Ambassador of the company.
The event was based on Arthur Goldstuk’s most recent book, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to AI.
Goldstuk shared an insightful presentation on the latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and their implications for business and society.
Setting the tone for the morning were Johan Crous and Elisheva Gilbert, who encouraged the attendees to open themselves to the possibilities presented by emerging technologies and learn more.
Goldstuck delved into the seven secrets of AI in business, shedding light on the transformative potential of AI across various sectors.
“Reflecting on the evolution of AI, we can trace it back to the origins of works such as Alan Turing’s 1950 paper, Computer Machinery and Intelligence, and John McCarthy’s coinage of the term in 1956.”
The author added that despite encountering setbacks, including periods of ‘AI Winter,’ the field has seen exponential growth fueled by technological advancements.
“Pivotal moments in AI history were introduced, such as the advent of the Internet, the development of algorithms, and the emergence of innovative products like ChatGPT, Amazon Translate, SageMaker, Recognition, Comprehend, and Transcribe.”
He explained that these advancements have propelled AI into mainstream consciousness, with applications ranging from language translation to facial recognition and natural language processing.
Goldstuck emphasised that what once seemed like science fiction is rapidly becoming the new normal in AI.
The presentation concluded with a glimpse into the future of AI, with Goldstuck highlighting recent developments that are an innovative solution for personalised investment advice driven by AI.
“The increasing maturity of AI technologies and their potential to reshape industries and society is amazing.”
