Fundraisers heard in Bryanston

The Explorers Friendship and Chat group in Bryanston raised a platform for fundraising towards an epic cause.

The Explorers Friendship and Chat group in Bryanston hosted a special guest speaker from Zimbabwe, who visited the group on March 22.

Alastair Watermeyer, with the technical assistance of Dianna Wall, represented the Old Legs cycle-touring group in presenting their fundraising tour initiatives to members of the Explorers Friendship and Chat group.

Watermeyer described the Old Legs cycle-touring group as a bunch of people who aspire to have fun doing epic things such as cycling long distances from country to country and raising funds to assist elderly citizens enjoy medical relief inexpensively.
The cyclists toured various countries between 2018 and 2023 including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Uganda and Zanzibar

“It’s important that we use the time we have left as valuably as possible, and it’s important not to let the days disappear,” Watermeyer said. “The runway is quite short, and it’s important not to trip.”
The Explorers Friendship and Chat group was celebrating their 12th anniversary, and hosting Watermeyer and Wall was their way of celebrating the milestone. The group has been meeting once a month in Bryanston all these years.

“I am very involved in this community, which is becoming more and more important in these times,” said event coordinator Shelley Addis. “We are a platform for friendship, and a spot for mental stimulation for senior citizens.”
