Little Ashford Preschool launches Kganya Mokhele Scholarship

In remembrance of 2-year-old Kganya Mokhele, Little Ashford has launched a transformative scholarship programme offering hope, opportunity, and early education to children in need.

In tribute to the memory of Kganya Mokhele, who tragically passed away in a classroom incident at the age of two in 2023, Little Ashford Preschool group launched a long-term legacy initiative, the Kganya Mokhele Scholarship Programme.

Officially commencing on July 7, the scholarship awarded five full-tuition scholarships to Little Ashford preschoolers, with one beneficiary from Little Ashford Buccleuch.

The programme will run annually for five years, amounting to 25 scholarships worth R100 000 each for children aged between one and five years.

These scholarships are designed to provide high-quality early education, ensuring Kganya’s legacy lives on through the lives of children given a bright start.

The family representative, Professor Maurice Radebe, said: “We have worked closely with Little Ashford to identify an initiative that would be meaningful, and which will serve to perpetuate Kganya’s memory. We will always hold Kganya close in our hearts, and, in this way, his spirit will endure.”

The programme is aimed at families who live within 15km of any Little Ashford Preschool, and have a combined annual household income of less than R300 000.

Each year, the Mokhele family will present the scholarships in a special ceremony, creating a meaningful moment of remembrance, reflection, and renewal.

The school’s executive head, Rozaan Strydom, said: “Kganya’s tragic passing left an indelible mark on his family and our community. We are honoured to announce this legacy initiative in Kganya’s name. By investing in the gift of education, and the nurturing of young minds, we ensure his memory lives on, not only in our hearts, but through every child who benefits from this scholarship.”
