India Day 2025 in Sandton
India Day celebration highlights the historic ties between India and South Africa, rooted in shared struggles for freedom and strengthened by modern partnerships in democracy, business, and cultural exchange.
The spirit of unity and celebration was alive at Sandown High School on August 23, as more than 5 000 people gathered for OTT India Day 2025, hosted by India Club South Africa in association with the Consulate General of India in Johannesburg.

The flagship event, now in its 79th year, marking India’s independence, blends music, dance, cuisine, and innovation into a cultural showcase that celebrates both heritage and community.
“India Day is more than a celebration, it’s a call to unity,” said Manish Gupta, chairman of India Club South Africa.
He added that as they honour India’s traditions, they also celebrate the shared values that connect them as South Africans: resilience, respect, and community.

This year’s theme of heritage, unity, and shared humanity resonated strongly, with attendees from across cultural backgrounds enjoying performances that ranged from classical Indian dance to modern fusion, as well as a bustling food market featuring regional Indian cuisine.
The Consulate General of India in Johannesburg, represented by the Honourable Consul General Mahesh Kumar, underscored the diplomatic importance of the event.
