Chad Martin claims third place in Discovery 5km
Running alongside the lead police car, Chad Martin felt like a professional, and his third-place finish proved just how far he’s come.
For Chad Martin, finishing third in the men’s 5km at the Discovery Vitality Run was more than just a medal moment.
“It was an amazing experience running so close to the police car that was leading the race. It made me feel like a professional runner.”

Martin explained that his strategy was simple: to start strong and give it his all, and that approach paid off, despite the challenges along the route.
“I was enjoying the race until I realised we had been running downhill for 2.5km, and now we had to go back uphill.”
He pointed out that the cheers of the Vitality crowd helped push him through.

“Team Vitality went all out to make it a fun, festive day. Seeing the sea of pink and hearing their encouragement really motivated me to run faster.”
Martin said the result marks an important step in his running journey.
“I feel proud to have placed 3rd as it shows the progress I have made and motivates me to keep pushing.”
With several 21km races already under his belt, he now has his sights set on a marathon.
His advice for aspiring runners is to stay positive, stay focused and enjoy the journey, not just the finish line.
“Enter into a competition to try and beat your time each run. Join a running group where you can challenge each other.”
