The Edge launches in Illovo

A local space for people who want to connect and recharge.

The Edge opened its doors at the DP World Wanderers Cricket Stadium, positioning itself as the city’s first dedicated space where professionals can work, connect and recover, all in one place.

The media launch drew a lively crowd in Illovo, where guests were served brunch and invited to explore the venue. True to its wellness-first ethos, The Edge even encouraged attendees to bring swimwear for optional cold plunges and sauna sessions.

For founder Helen Nicholson, the space is a response to the relentless pace of modern life.

“People thought 2025 would be easier, Covid was behind us, but instead it’s been another tough year. We can’t manage the economy or politics, but we can manage ourselves. The Edge is designed to help people do that.”

Nicholson’s message centred on recovery as the missing piece in most professionals’ lives.

She compared corporate life to sport: bursts of stress and performance followed by deliberate rest.

“Stress isn’t bad; it sharpens us. What breaks us is being stressed all the time. Recovery is not laziness; it’s the key to resilience.”

Using her trademark jigsaw puzzle analogy, Nicholson highlighted the corner pieces of well-being: sleep, exercise, gratitude and meditation.

“If you get those four right, the rest of your life starts to fall into place,” she said.

She added that the Edge aims to bring that philosophy to life, with spaces designed for work, meetings, collaboration and wellness, a balance many professionals in Joburg struggle to find.

Nicholson left guests with a blunt but liberating reminder.

“No one is coming to rescue you, not your boss, not the government. You have to take responsibility for your own energy and performance. That’s why we built The Edge: to give you a space to do just that.”
