Morningside Bowls Club celebrates a standout year on and off the green
A season of medals, milestones and standout performances has positioned Morningside as the JBA District’s club of the year.
Morningside Bowls Club closes 2025 on a high, cementing its place as one of the top-performing clubs in the Johannesburg Bowling Association (JBA) district and holding its own at provincial and national competitions.
It has been a year marked by strong performances, growing community engagement, and solid support from long-standing sponsors.
On the competitive front, the club’s Saturday league teams delivered results that set the tone for the season.

The men’s Premier Fours walked away with gold, while the ladies’ Premier Fours earned silver.
The men’s First Division Fours added another silver to the tally.
Beyond league play, Morningside bowlers made a statement across district competitions, collecting an impressive 8 gold, 5 silver, and 10 bronze medals across various formats.
One of the year’s standout individual achievements came from Nicole Erwee, who was named the JBA District Ladies Player of the Year.
Morningside itself received the honour of being named the JBA District Club of the Year, a reflection of both consistent excellence on the green and the depth of talent within the club.
Club president Gary Fraser said the recognition is a reminder of what makes the club special.

“Our players put in real effort throughout the year, and seeing that hard work pays off is incredibly rewarding. We’re proud not only of the results but of the spirit that runs through this club.”
While competition remains a core part of Morningside’s identity, its social scene continues to thrive.
The Barefoot Bowls sessions have become a favourite for corporate team-buildings, parties, and casual gatherings.
By the end of December, the club will have hosted more than 80 social events, welcoming more than 2 000 people to experience the game in a relaxed, inclusive environment.
The club also credits much of its success to the support of sponsors Sandton Properties, Personal Trust, Perfect Delivery, Aero Bowls, and Suzuki Bryanston.
Their backing helps make the club’s fundraising tournaments possible and keeps the broader bowling community engaged throughout the year.
