A dangerous sinkhole has developed on Chaplin Street in Illovo, prompting concern from residents and road users who fear it poses a serious risk to motorists.

Resident Oscar Maswanganye said the issue was reported to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) on February 5, and temporary safety measures were only put in place on February 11 by JRA.

While the barrier alerts drivers to the hazard, the sinkhole remains exposed in the middle of the road.
