Pre-season football friendlies kick off at Discovery Soccer Park

Young players spent a full day on the pitch at Discovery Soccer Park as clubs began preparing for the upcoming soccer season.

The new youth football season is slowly taking shape as pre-season friendly matches got underway at Discovery Soccer Park on March 8.

Teams from Warriors FC, Wanderers, and several other clubs gathered for a full day of football, allowing young players to sharpen their skills and build confidence ahead of the official league fixtures.

From the energetic U8 players to the more structured U11 teams, the day offered plenty of action on the pitch.

Herold Matodzi, the head coach at Warriors FC, said they are using these matches to test combinations, introduce new players, and evaluate their squads before the competitive season begins. “The results of friendly matches are not the main focus, as these games play an important role in preparing our young athletes for the months ahead.”

He added that, for some players, this was also their first chance this year to experience match conditions again after the off-season break.
