An active shooting incident is unfolding on Viola Crescent in Marlboro Gardens this morning, October 30, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and emergency services.

Update: Armsta chairperson dies

Tladi Lepolesa, spokesperson for the Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand, and Sandton Taxi Association (Armsta), who was too emotional to reveal any more details, confirmed that one of the people who was shot is Armsta chairperson Molefe Moekeletsi.

The confirmed death of the taxi association leader raises fears of taxi violence. Earlier this year, in July, an Armsta patroller was shot dead in Alexandra.

An official said that there are allegedly five people who have been shot. Two are dead, and three are receiving medical attention. The shooting appears to also involve multiple vehicles, like a red minibus taxi and others.

Initial reports

According to initial reports, multiple shots were fired near Sandton SPCA. The SPCA has confirmed that the incident does not involve them.

Road closure

Authorities have urged residents and motorists to avoid the area until the situation has been contained. Viola Crescent remains closed to traffic.
