Crawford Sandton pianist performs at Young Artist Concerto Festival
Crawford International Sandton prodigy Chi-Chi Juan was recently invited to perform alongside the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra’s 138th Young Artist Concerto Festival.
Crawford International Sandton learner Chi-Chi Juan recently stunned audiences at the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra (JSO) with his performance at the 138th Young Artist Concerto Festival.
Recently held at Linder Auditorium, the Grade 11 pianist was invited to join other young artists on stage who each had their opportunity to perform a piece.
The Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest orchestras in South Africa, with its first concert held in the Wanderers Hall in 1934 under the baton of Viennese-born conductor, Joseph Trauneck.

It is well known for its Concerto Festivals, with the first held in 1948. Since then, the festival has been instrumental in the development of over 500 South African musicians, many of whom have achieved international standing.
These Concerto Festivals are an ongoing initiative that serves as a platform for young and developing musical talent in South Africa to play a concerto with an orchestra.
Chi-Chi’s sister Cherry Juan in Grade 8 was also invited to perform at the same event last year.
