Redhill School learner runs rings at Central Gauteng athletics meeting

After competing ahead of her age group last year, Amara Naicker is back with a goal to break personal records in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, and claim the top spot in the Gauteng finals.

Grade 9 learner Amara Naicker, from Redhill School, has once again proven her athletic prowess, earning impressive results at the Central Gauteng athletics meeting recently.

Amara placed third in the girls’ U16 400m and second in the 100m heat during her first competition of the season, setting the stage for what promises to be another successful year on the track.

“I felt good, but I aim to do better next time.”

She added that her performance builds on her accomplishments from last year, where she competed a year ahead of her age division and qualified for the Gauteng Provincial finals in both the 100m and 200m, earning podium finishes in each event. “Staying consistent with my training and keeping focused are techniques I prioritise in my preparation for the new season. I want to do better, and that keeps me motivated.”

Amara is also thankful for the unwavering support from her coaches, teammates, and family, saying: “My teammates and coaches keep me motivated, while my parents support me and make the time to help me achieve my goals.”

Amara is determined to improve her 400m times and make it to the Gauteng finals once again. “With my dedication and hard work, there is no doubt that I will continue to excel in the sport that I love.”
