Redhill Class of 2024 student shares study secrets

From struggles in maths to top marks in biology, Vuyelwa Tshandu's matric journey proves discipline and balance are key.

Vuyelwa Noxolo Tshandu, a proud member of the Class of 2024 at Redhill School, made waves with her exceptional achievement of earning five distinctions in her matric exams.

With hard work and dedication, she proved that academic excellence is possible with the right mindset and strategies.

Vuyelwa not only celebrated her success but is also eager to share the study habits that helped her reach her goals, offering valuable advice to learners looking to follow in her footsteps. “I feel so rewarded to see my hard work pay off. One key factor in Vuyelwa’s success was the importance she placed on balance. She credits taking regular breaks as crucial to maintaining her focus and motivation. “I made sure to take both long and short breaks to recharge, and also spent time doing things I enjoy. This helped me avoid burnout.”

For learners struggling with maintaining energy levels, she suggests finding activities that bring joy, whether it is exercise, hobbies, or spending time with loved ones.

Vuyelwa also highlights the value of discipline over motivation. “At the end of the day, it is more about discipline than motivation. Consistency in studying, even when you do not feel like it, is key.”

Despite facing challenges in mathematics, Vuyelwa was able to turn things around by dedicating time to regular practice. “Maths was a struggle for me, but I found that with consistent practice, I started seeing improvement.”

She added that her top achievement came in biology, a subject she excelled in and felt especially proud of.

Another important strategy Vuyelwa recommends is keeping a daily track of what was learnt in class. “Writing down what was covered at school each day helped me stay organized and reminded me of what I still needed to focus on.”
