Bryanston Honey Badgers Rugby Club goes from small beginnings to big achievements
From a local school to becoming a force in youth rugby, the Bryanston Honey Badgers Rugby Club is proving that great things come from passion and perseverance.

The Bryanston Honey Badgers Rugby Club continues to thrive as a beacon of courage and skill in youth rugby.
Launched in 2019, the club’s mission has always been to develop young players, while fostering a love for rugby in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment.
Anthony Losco, the chairperson of the club, speaks about the club’s growth and success since its inception. “Our focus has always been on developing junior rugby in the area, and creating opportunities for kids of all backgrounds and abilities. What started as a small initiative at Bryanston High School has now blossomed into something far bigger.

“In just a few years, the Bryanston Honey Badgers Rugby Club has achieved remarkable milestones, including the selection of two players for the Golden Lions Rugby Union Youth IPT team, and the introduction of a junior girls’ rugby team.”
Losco explained that the club’s membership has tripled in size within years, underscoring its growing popularity and the high-quality training it provides. “Our players are more than just athletes; they are part of a community. We teach them the values of respect, teamwork, effort, and leadership. Values that we associate with the tough, fearless African honey badger.”
He said the club is run as a non-profit organisation, and every coach and volunteer is dedicated to the development of the players. “All of the club’s coaches are Boksmart certified, and have a minimum of an IRB level 1 coaching qualification. Our coaches are passionate about the game, and their goal is to pass that passion onto our young players. We also offer opportunities for kids to learn coaching and refereeing skills, ensuring a holistic rugby experience.”
