South African College of Applied Psychology collects feminine hygiene products for Realogile High learners

Nitro Crew and the South African College of Applied Psychology are rallying support for schoolgirls in Alexandra by collecting essential toiletries to ensure no girl misses school due to a lack of sanitary supplies.

The South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP), in collaboration with Nitro Crew, recently held a library drive aimed at collecting sanitary pads and essential toiletries for girls at Realogile High School in Alexandra.

Campus librarian Rotshidzwa Kutama, the leader of the SACAP project, noted the targeted nature of their efforts. “Realogile High School was selected due to the high number of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, many of whom miss school during their menstrual cycle due to a lack of sanitary supplies. Our project aims to bridge that gap and promote access to education.”

The outreach efforts by Nitro Crew and SACAP are part of an ongoing initiative aimed at fostering community support and addressing educational barriers faced by students.

“We believe in holistic and transformational education. Our students are not only gaining academic knowledge; they’re also learning to give back to the communities they are part of,” Kutama said.

The youngest member of Nitro Crew, Tejal Ramnath, said: “Many schoolgirls do not attend classes because they lack basic necessities like sanitary pads.

“Our goal is to collect 2 000 sanitary pads, along with other essential items, to help these girls stay in school and achieve their educational goals.”

The handout event is scheduled for April 20 at Realogile High School, where the collected items will be distributed directly to those in need.

SACAP head of campus Jogin Packery expressed the institution’s commitment to community empowerment. “At SACAP, our motto is to educate for a better world. By running projects like these, we can make a direct impact on our communities.”
