Riverclub homeowner’s frustration grows over persistent water leak
Despite the leak outside Trevor Joffe’s property being repaired earlier this year, it is now back, causing frustration and uncertainty as Johannesburg Water seems unable, or unwilling, to do anything about it.
Riverclub property owner Trevor Joffe has found his relief short-lived after dealing with a persistent water leak that has caused significant disruption outside his home.
While he thought the problem was finally resolved earlier this year, it seems that the issue has resurfaced, affecting his property once again.
Joffe first reported the leak to Johannesburg Water (JW) back in November 2024, but JW only managed to fix the problem earlier this year. However, just one week later, the leak reappeared. “The leak is outside my yard, but it spreads into the yard, making the parking space unusable and causing water to cover much of the yard. It has made it uncomfortable to walk around my property.”

Despite repeated efforts to get the issue resolved, Joffe says that no action has been taken. “The very same day I saw the leak again, I reported it, but nothing happened. I have reported the issue more than three times, but each time, it seems to be ignored.”
In late March, Joffe visited the JW office before heading overseas, hoping to find a resolution.
He said he spoke with a manager, who informed him that his previous reports had been cancelled. “I do not know what to do anymore. It feels like the same scenario as last time, when JW claimed the depot confirmed there was no leak at my address, 121, but, instead, the leak was at 131.”

As Joffe prepares to leave for a few weeks, he explains that he is wondering what condition his yard will be in upon his return. “I cannot monitor the situation while I am away, and I am unsure how bad things will get. I just want this issue fixed once and for all.”
JW was contacted on April 3 for their comment on the matter, but at the time of publication, no response had been received.
